Course Details

  • Eligibility: Candidates must have completed their 12th grade to apply for the course.
  • Course Duration: The course spans a duration of 2 years.
  • No. of Sessions: The course is conducted once yearly.
  • No. of Candidates: Each year, a total of 10 candidates are admitted to the program.
  • Degree Awarded: Upon successful completion of the course, candidates are awarded the degree of Endoscopy Technician.

  • Technician Training Programme at KIMS Secunderabad

    The department offers a 2-year training course for technical assistance skills in endoscopy. This programme is designed to offer comprehensive training and education in the field of both basic and interventional endoscopy, equipping technicians with the knowledge and skills necessary to become competent assistants in the field under the guidance of renowned gastroenterologists. It’s a paid training course and the participant will be engaged in clinical work along with daily training. A total of 2 students will be taken for this course on a yearly basis.

    Aims

    The aim is to impart high-quality training in endoscopy to technicians at various levels, including basic procedures (endoscopy, colonoscopy), therapeutics (ERCP, Dilatation, Polypectomy, EUS), and advanced therapeutics (SpyGlass, Lithotripsy, Enteroscopy, EMR, ESD, POEM). The goal is to train technicians who are limited in numbers and availability to make the endoscopy work of gastroenterologists easier, ensuring quality patient care. We will try to accommodate them in our hospital chain after completion, where a need is present if agreeable to them.

    Eligibility Requirements

    Candidates are selected through an interview process after reviewing the candidates’ applications submitted through the hospital portal. Candidates are expected to have completed and passed their 12th exams before joining this course. Nursing background and science/technical background graduates will be given preference over others.

    Course Fee Structure

    The course fee is 1 lakh rupees, Rs. 50,000 per annum. Payments are to be done annually at the beginning of each year. Part payments are not accepted. All payments are to be done to the KIMS Hospitals accounts. Payment through cheque, DD, and online transfers are accepted. Cash payments are not accepted.

    • Comprehensive Curriculum: Our technician training programme covers all aspects of endoscopy, including basics to advanced procedures. They will also develop experience in endoscope maintenance, endoscopy machinery maintenance, and endoscopy recording and reporting software management.
    • Clinical Experience: Technicians will have exposure to a wide range of endoscopy cases, both common and complex, allowing them to develop expertise in the assistance of various procedures.

    course structure

    • Initial 6 months of the course will be lectures and observation in the endoscopy unit.
    • Next six months will be learning to assist the procedures from the qualified technicians.
    • At the end of One year, there will be a theory examination to assess their proficiency.
    • After clearing the theory, there will be one year of internship with stipend.
    • At the end of internship, there will be a practical examination to assess performance and technical competency.
    • Trainee needs to maintain a log-book which will be audited quarterly.
    • Degree will be awarded as Endoscopy Technician.

    Course Curriculum in detail

    • Trainee technician will be attached to the endoscopy department, will observe, assist procedures routine and therapeutic.
    • Didactic lectures will be taken to the technicians on a fortnightly basis with emphasis on basics of endoscopic anatomy, physiology, pathology and endoscopy, electrocautery, accessories.

    • Therapeutic procedures: Dilatation, Banding, Sclerotherapy, Polypectomy, Clip application, Hemostasis, Peg placement, Argon plasma Coagulation
    • ERCP – Biliary and Pancreatic: Cannulation, Sphincterotomy, Dilatation, Stenting, stone extraction
    • Spy-Glass Cholangioscopy
    • Manometry – Technique, maintenance and reporting
    • Endoscopic Ultrasound: Diagnostic and therapeutics such as FNAC, Celiac Plexus Block-Neurolysis, cystogastrostomy
    • Third space endoscopy assistance

    hospital Duties

    • Clinical work will be endorsed daily in the endoscopy department on a rotational basis, based on their shift pattern and need.
    • Trainee needs to attend and take up emergency procedure on calls along with on-call technician.
    • Routine work timings: 2 shifts, 8 am - 4 pm & 10 am - 6 pm

    • Trainee will be provided access to the hospital canteen and food cards will be provided (payment for same at their own expenses).
    • Trainees must make their own arrangements for stay and transport.
